KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Planned Parenthood clinic was charged Wednesday with providing unlawful abortions and other crimes by a county prosecutor who had engaged in a high-profile battle with the clinic when he was Kansas attorney general.

Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline charged the Overland Park, Kan., clinic with 107 counts, 23 of them felonies. Besides 29 misdemeanor counts of providing unlawful late-term abortions, the clinic is charged with multiple counts of making a false writing, failure to maintain records and failure to determine viability.

Our hospital is charging the insurance company $4000 per day!

The hospital is charging TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS PER DAY for my 4 day hospital stay. This doesn’t include the obgyn fees.

What kills me is that 2 years ago, we had a baby, and the hospital billed 1/3 that amount. The prices have gone up 300% in just 2 years? Can that be?

AFTER insurance, we are going to have to pay $1700 per day.
Our out of pocket maximum is $6000 per year, so at least that keeps the hospital from bankrupting us.

2 years ago, I spent 10 days in the hospital, and was very ill, and I had an MRI, among other things, and the hospital still billed about $40,000 for the whole thing.

I’m talking about Shawnee Mission Hospital in Overland Park, KS. They are a non-profit. Does this have anything to do with our charges?
minicupcake: If you don’t have insurance, you can go to a nonprofit hospital, and based on your income, they will charge you less.
Even though we have insurance, we will have to ask that the hospital we dealt with will write off some of that debt. (Don’t know if they will, though).

I’ve also heard that schools on the MO side are not as good as schools on the KS side…??? Can anybody out there help me with this?

Keep in mind that we are moving from Alabama, with some of the worst schools in the nation (my daughter currently attends a private school), so the worst school in MO may still be better than the best school in Alabama!
